On a convertible, the moutning points to the tranny tunnel, crack.

here's the beefier, one-peice welded brace with the radio piece that is
now thick sheet steel and bolts solidly
to the tranny tunnel, to hopefully prevent the A-pillar and front door
sills from going trapezoidal, and also hopes
to grab the tranny tunnel more firmly, and limit torsion of the front
end.

now welded up for more stiffness.

closeups of the radio box, the side skirts are some thick steel, about
11 gage or so.

the back piece is 18 or 16 gage, which is plenty thick for this section.

mounted up, it bolts securely to the tranny tunnel.

If and when I get time, I am going to try to figure out if I can
improve the torsional flex resistance by tying the
base where it grabs the tranny tunnel with a couple of tubular V-braces
like this. Also, the passenger side
slotted bolt holes may allow the peice to slip side to side along the
studs. Either-- finding a way to make
washers that fit those slots, or re-engineering that whole side, would
be in order.

The slotted passenger side mount. Flimsy, and the slots may allow
lateral motion.
The Driver's side is so incredibly beefy and stiff, in comparison.
